Aani, a young girl who lives in northern India, loves to sit beneath the trees near the village where she lives. One day, a group of tree cutters announce that they are going to cut the trees down. Aani is horrified and distraught, and tries to explain that the trees not only provide food and fuel, but beauty and homes for the little animals of the forest. The tree cutters refuse to listen to her until Aani does something completely amazing and brave. This story is based on true events. With jewel-like illustrations throughout.
