In this picture book set during World War II, a Japanese-American girl named Emi and the rest of her family are forced to leave their home and live in an internment camp. Emi, a second grader, tries to be brave, but when she loses the bracelet given to her by the best friend she left behind in California, Emi feels she can`t cope. Luckily, Emi`s mother helps her survive the difficult times that she and all Japanese-Americans face. Illustrated with watercolor paintings.
