Wendell Berry warns against the inroads that are being made against democracy as he excoriates the national security policy of the Bush administration, the greed that drives corporate (and to a large extent political) life, and the manipulation of public attitudes that accompany both. Berry, as always, comes out in favor of small-scale living, intelligent participation in the issues before us, and respect for nature and humanity.
