One of Trollope`s many novels dealing with questions of property and inheritance, COUSIN HENRY tells the story of an old man torn between two possible heirs: a nephew he dislikes, and the devoted niece who has looked after him for many years. In other words, he must either accept the traditional obligation to leave property to the closest male relative, or take a more unorthodox path and provide for someone he loves and is close to. Trollope`s exploration of his dilemma is remarkably sensitive and forward-looking for a Victorian paterfamilias.
