A publishing executive began keeping a diary for his young daughter, in which he described his childhood in a small Long Island town, hoping to demonstrate the differences between those days and his daughter's experiences growing up a generation later in New York City. In the process, Carl Lennertz also writes--often humorously--about the experience of fatherhood, and of trying to raise a happy and well-adjusted child in a world that has become more difficult.
