A little girl takes the overnight watch on her father's sailboat as they cross Lake Superior, looking out for any lights, logs, or boats while the autopilot guides the way. The child silently regards the stars and imagines dragons in the water until dawn breaks and her father joins her for hot chocolate. Darkly evocative paintings depict the magnificent isolation and beauty of the huge lake at night. The author is very familiar with keeping watches: as a teen, she sailed on her father's boat for more than a year, from Ontario to the Bahamas and back again. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005.
