This portrait of the VanderZee family is painted by daughter Suzan, 17, and her 15-year-old brother Evan, who view their parents--ditsy mother, bland father--through a film of adolescent angst. As Suzan filters her life through her reading of Victorian novels and her scorn for just about everyone she knows, Evan falls in love with a glamorous new girl at school.
