In this adaptation of Romulo Gallegos`s classic novel, young Santos Luzardo (Jorge Perugorria) returns to his family`s ranch in hope of selling it and moving beyond his family`s mysterious past. However, the seductive Dona Barbara (Esther Goris, also purported to be a witch, complicates matters, and Luzardo soon finds himself in a web of passion, greed, and family secrets.
