In this 12th book in the Sector General series, the hospital receives transmissions from several different distress beacons, all located within the same star system. Sent to investigate, Dr. Prilicla and his team are confronted with two sets of casualties (including the crew of the first Federation vessel on the scene) and two previously unknown species, one of which seems intent on starting a war.
