The true story of the WPA-sponsored Pack Horse Library Project of Eastern Kentucky. That project, which was conduced in the 1930s and early 1940s, was a program that had workers, most of whom were women, traveling through Eastern Kentucky on horseback in order to provide library services to the impoverished people of the Cumberland Mountains.
