Just beginning seventh grade, Rory wants to paint a mural with her dad for her mom`s birthday. But before she can even approach her dad with her idea, her world comes crashing around her: her parents have decided to get a divorce, and her father moves out of the house. As she struggles with her pain, she doesn`t tell her friends, and she finds that making art has lost all its joy. As each day passes, she becomes more and more isolated from her friends and teachers. Will Rory ever paint again? And will she ever be able to talk about how she feels?
