This early novel is a light comedy that describes the adventures of a small-town telegrapher who wants to settle down and marry his sweetheart but is too easily distracted into drinking and pranks by his friends. Reminiscent in many ways of Booth Tarkington--it was written in 1904--it provides a vivid portrait of provincial life in turn-of-the-century Norway.
