Charlie Chaplin was in the first part of his creative peak in the 1916 - 1917 era that is represented in this collection. A full decade before the Great Depression he was chronicling with great heart the plight of the poor and unfortunate, a condition he knew first hand while growing up in England. In such films as THE IMMIGRANT, he is among the wave of hopeful immigrants welcomed into New York City and who finds hardship trying to get by on the streets of the city. Other films in this collection are: BEHIND THE SCENES, THE RINK, EASY STREET, and THE CURE.
