Michael Paller's biography of Tennessee Williams focuses on the playwright's own homosexuality and the way he dealt with that in his work. Paller deals with most of the plays, discusses each one in turn to show exactly how it does or does not reflect Williams's gayness, and analyzes it in the context not only of his life but of the times. Paller sees Williams as torn between his need to conceal his sexuality while, at the same time, desperately needing to write about it. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only.
