Written in diary form, this is the story of one teenage girl`s descent into drug addiction. The first diary entries tell of Alice`s trials and tribulations as a typical high school student fretting over boys, her looks, friends, and her relationship with her parents. However, while attending a party, Alice is unknowingly given a drink spiked with LSD. Although she is confused by the experience, Alice is also liberated by the lack of inhibition she feels while on acid, and she is soon experimenting with all types of drugs. The diary then follows Alice`s ever-increasing drug dependence, her deteriorating relationship with her family, and her life on the streets after she runs away from home. Throughout the story, Alice faces many difficult, dark experiences and makes several attempts to free herself from her addiction. Towards the end of the diary, she returns to her family and seems to be on solid ground, but the book ends with a bitter afterword that reveals Alice`s death from a drug overdose. Written by Anonymous, GO ASK ALICE is presented as the actual diary of a real girl, although there is some debate over whether or not there was a real Alice or if she is a composite based on the experiences of several young girls.
