In this magical Italian novel, a boy living in an impoverished section of Naples leaves school to work in the shop of a cabinetmaker. There he meets a saintly humpback, a cobbler, who gives him a boomerang that indirectly changes the boy`s life, and the life of Maria, who becomes his girlfriend.
