This is volume one of a science fantasy shojo manga series by a former member of the prestigious CLAMP manga studio, presenting her own take on one of that group's favorite themes: millennial doom. In the year 1999, the Earth is threatened with invasion from the solar system's mysterious 10th planet. According to 14-year-old Rune Ayanokouji's mad scientist grandfather, the Earth's only hope is the Space Queen, the woman who rules the universe by the power of her will. Naturally, Rune is the reincarnation of the Space Queen, as evidenced by the Queen's sun crest that Rune bears on her arm, and Rune's grandfather will continue to design and sew Space Queen costumes until the skeptical Rune is convinced. But if Rune is the Space Queen, then why do her friends, the hunky Ibayashi twins, also have the sun crest on their arms? The black-and-white art is cute and pretty, with lots of superdeformed depictions of the characters, in keeping with the frothy, humorous tone of the book. Reprinted in the original Japanese right-to-left format, the book includes an illustrated afterword by the series creator. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.
