From time immemorial shrewd observations of human relationships have been condensed in concise proverbs, and passed from generation to generation to serve as guiding principles in the lives of the Chinese people. To understand the ethics of the Chinese people and the philosophical background of their outlook on life, one can do no better than to study their proverbs.
