In Search of Islamic Feminism

A portrait of daily life for women in Islamic countries at the end of the 20th century. Fernea, a professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas, spent two years travelling in Uzbekistan, Morocco, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Israel to determine the conditions of life for women in those countries and to find out whether Western feminism is compatible with Islamic culture.
