The story of a woman named Phillipa (Rigg) and her quest for love in the sequestered world of the Benedictine nuns at Brede Abbey. She becomes involved in relationships with two women: one a young and confused novice, and the other an older and frigid conservative. Phillipa comes to the conclusion that both women can be loved equally.
