This melancholy literary thriller is the second in a series. American forensic pathologist Nora Gavin and Irish archaeologist Cormac Maguire, colleagues and lovers, are studying an ancient corpse preserved in Loughnabrone Bog. The centuries-deceased man appears to have undergone a Celtic sacrificial ritual known as the triple death. Then more contemporary bodies begin turning up in the bog, also bearing the marks of the triple death, and Nora must figure out who among the many possible suspects is the modern murderer.
