A biography of the baseball player known as the Iron Horse, whose record for consecutive games played--2,130 consecutive games--stood from 1939, when he left baseball, until 1995. A popular player, Gehrig died one year after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, an incurable disease that affects the central nervous system.
