Ansel Phoenix is a half-Anglo, half-Blackfoot who sketches dinosaurs for a living and also serves as president of a group that studies fossils. When fellow member of the group--and her ex-lover--Nick Capos is murdered, she decides to try and solve the murder herself. In the process, she learns many unpleasant facts about the organization she heads.
