Based on a manga by Eiji Ootsuka, MPD PSYCHO was a six episode mini-series directed for Japanese television by prolific cult filmmaker Takashi Miike. This release contains the third and fourth episodes of the series. Yousuke Kobayashi is a homicide detective who is traumatized by the murder of his wife and takes on the identity of shrewd investigator Anamiya Kazuhiko. Anamiya is able to solve the case and arrest serial killer Shinji Nishizono. But a few years later, a mysterious cult with barcoded eyeballs appears to be imitating Nishizono`s crimes, and the retired Kobayashi-Anamiya is reinstated to investigate the case. In these episodes, Anamiya looks into the mass suicide of a group of schoolgirls, and discovers a grisly collection of severed limbs in a local field. Although MPD PSYCHO was produced for television, it still contains the shocking strangeness and subversion that has made Miike a cult favorite around the world. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005.
