Fatima, a young girl living in Sudan, is thrilled when her village finally has a water pump installed. She and the other villagers are relieved that they will no longer have to collect and store rainwater in baobab trees. Only Fatima`s great-grandmother is wary of the water pump and continues with her traditional preparation of the family`s baobab tree. Fatima is initially ashamed of her great-grandmother`s resistance to modern life, but when other villagers begin to mock the woman, Fatima comes to her defence and helps her prepare the tree. When the water pump breaks down, Fatima and the rest of the villagers realize the wisdom of welcoming new inventions while still respecting older traditions. Based on a true story.
