Pogo is considered one of the most important newspaper strips ever published in the medium's history. Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1998, 25 years after the death of its creator, former Disney artist Walt Kelly, the strip remains a masterpiece of comic-strip art. Known for its sharp political and social satire, no strip is more loved or fondly remembered. Volume 10 enters the golden years of the POGO dailies with a stretch of strips from March to October, 1953, including a compelling and dangerous (for its time) McCarthyism sequence. Volume 11 finishes up 1953 and heads straight into 1954 and the prime years of Kelly's cartooning life. Classic comedy sequences include another run of baseball strips to coincide with the World Series and an incredibly pointed satire of academia and college football.
