As manufacturing processes and associated numerical controls become more complex, the information provided by traditional point sensors is no longer sufficient. Research and development of products and processes requires experimental validation of detailed numerical models. In many cases only imaging systems can provide the required information. This text, a collaboration of international experts, offers a broad perspective on process imaging and its use in controlling industrial processes. The authors present an overview of recent progress in process imaging from both an academic and an industrial viewpoint, placing emphasis on the practical applications of the technology.
