Complete your oriental design scheme with this terra cotta horse statue from China. Carefully crafted by expert artisans, this statue is a replica of those found at a Chinese archaeological dig. In 1974, well-diggers stumbled on a huge underground vault containing thousands of life-size clay soldiers and horses. The vault turned out to be Lintong, the burial ground of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor to unify China in a series of bloody wars between 246 and 221 B.C. Thousands of these stoic guardians along with life-size terracotta horses filled the tomb. This fascinating piece is an 11 x 13-inch, replica of the Horse of Lintong. The terracotta horse has been weathered and given a muddy texture to capture the look of the original statues which now reside in a Chinese museum.
