The author has interviewed 12 distinguished and innovative American choreographers and presents in-depth conversations that focus specifically on the art of dance. The interviewees include Merce Cunningham, Meredith Monk, Bill T. Jones, Mark Morris, and Trisha Brown. The questions bring to light these masters' sources, motivations, and processes; their emotional vicissitudes; and their practical concerns in making dances.
