Jacob Miller lives in the inner-city with his mother and his younger brother, Pee Wee. Jacob is bitter and angry about being poor, a condition he feels is associated with being African-American. He reluctantly agrees to help Pee Wee build a snowman out of snow which is black from the dirt and soot of the city. When the boys drape a kente cloth over the snowman`s shoulder, he magically comes to life. The snowman helps Jacob develop pride in his heritage by sharing stories of his African ancestors. Illustrated with pastels and watercolors.
