Rejoice in who you are! Rejoice in who everyone else is! That's the theme of the Worm family: the parents and their children Albert, Evangeline, Blanche, and little Rosa, and Uncle Herm Worm. They're travelling from one neighborhood to another, looking for acceptance. Their glossily striped insect neighbors derisively call them worms, but this only makes the Worms preen with pride. This immediately spurs the neighbors to pick up anything handy and throw it directly at the intruders as hard as they can. When Evangeline admonishes her family to show their spines, they sensibly respond that worms don't have spines. Most effective for read-aloud sessions is the Worms' shouted motto: We are worms and we are proud!/ We are long and we are LOUD! Full-color illustrations accompany the text.
