At first the children are excited when Farmer Berry brings them eggs that they can use in a classroom lesson about hatching chicks. The eggs finally do hatch, and the kids are delighted. That is until the baby chicks turn into full grown chickens and Farmer Berry never returns to bring them back to the farm. Suddenly, the classroom is being overrun with loud, smelly chickens. When Farmer Berry does return, she doesn`t take the chickens back with her but brings some rabbits into the classroom instead. Is Farmer Berry trying to turn the school into a farm? Color illustrations accompany the text.
