The true survival story of Sir Ernest Shackleton who, in 1914, attempted to become the first person to cross the Southern Polar Cap. Early in the journey, his ship, The Endurance , was crushed by a sea of ice, stranding him and his crew in one of the harshest regions on the planet. It took two years for these men to make it make to civilization, a perilous adventure which, miraculously, they all survived. Color illustrations accompany the text.
