Walter Byers was executive director of the NCAA from 1951 to 1986. In Unsportsmanlike Conduct, he examines the evolution of college athletic programs into an enormous industry that persists in calling itself `amateur,` and that takes advantage of the people who actually earn the money and get very little in return--the athletes themselves.
