Originally published in 1905 (!), the five stories contained in this volume were among the first to explore the modern idea of biological weapons. Ramon y Cajal, a doctor and scientist who went on to win the Nobel Prize in Medicine, had been researching the brain and chemical effects upon it and wrote these stories (under the pseudonym Dr. Bacteria) partly as a warning and partly as a way of promoting his own (sometimes a little odd) philosophical ideas.
