Many people faithfully record their thoughts, experiences, and ideas in a journal. Expressive art therapists Barbara Ganim and Susan Fox believe there may be some ideas (and emotions) that words cannot express, whether that be by some failing in the language itself or the verbal limitations of the person using it. Here they describe their technique of visual journaling--keeping a daily record of sketches, paintings, doodles, and other images--to express true feelings, unspoiled by conscious constructions of the language. The authors believe putting thoughts into pictures can help people work through problems, understand emotions, and find their inner voice. Artistic skill is not required to use this book.
