The Caesar of the title is an African slave named Cese Mwakale, who is banished to the Great Dismal Swamp because he has displeased his owner, George Washington. Once away from the plantation, Caesar goes to work for the British troops, hoping to gain his freedom as a result--and meets up with Washington again in 1777 at Brandywine Creek....
