Set in the early 1900s, this is a prequel to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry . David and Hammer are young boys when all the wells in town go dry except theirs. The Logan family shares their water with all their neighbors regardless of race, but one white boy, Charlie Simms, still harasses the family.
