This sequel to the 2000 novel WORTHY`S TOWN is set after World War II in a small Illinois town, where Cappy Giberson returns to try to find work as a reporter. His estranged father, Drayton, whom Cappy blames for the long-ago death of his mother, shows up, as does his brother Tick, a religious fanatic who has been on the road for Jesus. Cappy`s old resentments don`t go away, his career isn`t going well, and the rape of a local girl may point to one of his relatives.
