This collection of captivity narratives of whites who were enslaved by Africans on the Barbary Coast includes the stories of John Foss and Ion Perdicaris, as well as Robert Adams, who was actually a light-skinned African American. These captives were often held until ransomed, and this situation lent support to the demands for an American Navy. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.
