Unhappy that her mother has sent her to stay with her grandmother for the summer, 9-year-old Joselle takes her anger out on Blaze, a shy neighborhood boy whose mother has died. Blaze, also 9, is confused when he sees his mother`s name and the word orphan spelled out with stones on a nearby mountainside. Not knowing that Joselle is the one who performed this deed, Blaze forges a friendship with her.
